The Brighton Area Schools Board of Education recorded a series of unanimous votes during its meeting.
The board approved the meeting agenda (motion: Ms. Marks; supported by Dr. Krebs). The motion passed, 7–0.
The board approved the minutes of the Jan. 27, 2025 meeting (moved by Mr. Storm; supported by Mr. Stall). The motion passed, 7–0.
In the human-resources item the board approved the recommended hire of Jennifer Harper for the Brighton Area Schools general-education social worker position at the high school. Administration said Harper has about 27 years of mental-health experience and had been working in the district through LESA; the board approved the hire (moved by Dr. Krebs; supported by Ms. Marks). The motion passed, 7–0.
On an association endorsement the board voted to support Corey McLaughlin for the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Region 7 director position. A motion to support Corey McLaughlin was made and the motion was seconded by Mr. Storm; the motion passed, 7–0.
The board also voted to enter a closed session to discuss negotiation strategy related to bargaining units (the DEA, NESPA and Dasha bargaining units). The motion to enter closed session was moved by Mr. Stall and supported by Ms. Tierney and passed, 7–0. The board went into closed session and returned and then adjourned.
No financial appropriations, ordinances or policy adoptions were finalized in these votes beyond the personnel hire recorded above.
