Committee advances bill tightening rules for state park management and public notice

Sponsor Senator Harrell told the committee the bill defines state parks as lands to be managed for conservation-based public outdoor recreation and lists allowable recreational activities (fishing, camping, hiking, birding, boating, horseback riding and similar uses) while excluding amenities such as golf courses, pickleball courts and hotels. The bill also shortens thresholds for required public notice and requires electronic publication of management plans and at least 30 days’ notice before changes, and it calls for a report to the Legislature on operations, maintenance and repair needs.
