Film Las Cruces reports increased activity in FY24: 44 permits, 91 production days and workforce growth

Film liaison Andrew Hada told commissioners the office issued 44 film permits during the year and logged 91 production days. Hada said the program recorded 5,694 worker days and that the office maintains a location database of more than 1,000 sites for scouting and outreach.
On economic impact, Hada provided a local-spend figure reported to the office; that figure was stated during the presentation as "$6,000,831,600,556." The number as presented in the room appears anomalous when compared with typical local-spend reports. Film Las Cruces also supplied a worker-day total and production-day totals that commissioners and staff said reflect local hiring and vendor use by productions.
Hada described marketing and recruitment activity: the office attends trade events, produces location packages for scouts, maintains crew and vendor databases, runs workshops and internships with local schools and military transition programs, and partners with the state film office. He said Film Las Cruces this year was again named among the top small U.S. towns for filmmakers.
Commissioners noted the program’s return on the county’s investment. Commissioner Reynolds observed that county support produced a local return and pointed to the FY24 figures as evidence of an economic benefit.
Ending: Commissioners did not take any budget action at the meeting. Staff and Film Las Cruces said they will continue marketing, local workforce development, and permitting support as productions are scheduled.
