Council authorizes 36‑month Westlaw contract for city attorney's office

The Jackson City Council on Feb. 5 authorized a 36‑month agreement with Thomson Reuters Westlaw to provide legal research services to the city attorney's office.
Arden Carr, special assistant in the city attorney's litigation unit, asked how the office had been handling research while the contract expired. A staff member replied that the city has been using Westlaw under an extension after the previous contract expired in December so negotiations could proceed. "We're using Westlaw currently. Our contract expired in December of last year, but we got it extended, so that we can negotiate a new contract," the staff member said.
The council approved the 36‑month agreement on a recorded vote of 5–0. No additional conditions or alternate legal-research platforms were proposed during the meeting.
