At a meeting of the Carbondale Public Arts Committee (CPAC), staff reported the committee has received submissions from 16 artists totaling 38 entries for the upcoming CaFÉ (CallForEntry) show.
Laurie, identified in the meeting as a staff member coordinating the show, said, “We're doing okay. We have, at this point, 16 artists have submitted. There are 38 entries.” The committee discussed outreach efforts members had made to encourage additional submissions, including emails to colleges, arts organizations and artist lists.
The committee also discussed the jury schedule after staff acknowledged an error in the original calendar. Laurie proposed several options: if the call closes on the 11th, the first-round packet could be sent on the 13th with returns by Tuesday the 18th; alternatively, the packet could be sent on the 20th with returns by the 25th. The committee agreed the second-jury round would be completed on Feb. 25, with an in-person, on-site final vote set for March 5. Laurie said she would send passwords, voting instructions and a revised schedule by email to the panel and would reconfirm the dates the next day.
Committee members noted that members who will be out of town can still cast votes through the CaFÉ system even if they cannot attend the in-person discussion; Frank said he would be out of state, and Lesha indicated she would be out of town as well. Laurie confirmed out-of-town members can use CaFÉ to vote but would not participate in the in-person discussion.
Members reviewed outreach tactics used to recruit submissions (direct emailing to arts programs, Anderson Ranch, Marble Fest contacts and Colorado Creative Industries) and urged continued random outreach in the final days before the call closes. Laurie said she would report back to the committee on the final entry count after the call closes and would circulate the first-round packet once the schedule is confirmed.
The committee also received a brief informational update on CPAC's end-of-year budget, which members said appears to be in the black; the luminary project was noted as a year-end expense charged to Michael. No formal vote was taken on the budget at this meeting.
Laurie will send a revised jury schedule and voting instructions to the committee; the committee expects to reconvene for the in-person final vote on March 5.
