Missouri Senate leaders say public-safety bills SB 52 and SB 44 remain priorities as session continues

Missouri Senate Majority Floor Leader Tony Luke Demeyer of Parkville said Senate Bills 52 and 44, which relate to public safety, remain a priority for the chamber as lawmakers begin a new week of work.
The remarks came as senators prepared for additional floor debate and committee hearings. "The original intention, at least in my mind, was to maybe start that debate this week," Demeyer said, adding that one senator with a close interest in the issue, "Senator May," was ill this week.
Missouri Senate Minority Floor Leader Doug Beck of Afton commented on separate ballot measures from last November, saying he wants those voter decisions to remain in place. "They decided to try to take that away however they possibly can," Beck said. "When those things happen and come up, well, we can have better discussions on it. But right now, we're behind the voters. We try to support what the voters have voted for."
