Carbondale Tree Board approves minutes; staff outlines inventory, EAB removals and website plans

The Carbondale Tree Board on Jan. 16 voted to approve its meeting minutes and spent the bulk of the session on operational issues including the town's tree inventory, emerald ash borer (EAB) work and a proposed update to public information resources.
Town arborist Carl reported the town's tree inventory is divided into about seven units and recommended a rolling approach to updates. "We might. I think next summer, we'll make significant progress, and it might take another season after that to finish it," Carl said, describing a plan to update a few units each year so the inventory is continually refreshed.
Carl also summarized contracted and winter work: smaller EAB removals and stump grinding remain; he plans to prepare a priority removal list for River Valley Ranch and to issue a new RFQ this spring for the Eighth-and-Main triangle flower-bed replacement. He told the board he will reissue the RFQ after a poor response in the prior cycle and expects to seek quotes in the coming weeks.
On customer service and public outreach, Carl outlined a proposed one-page tree-planting diagram and a tree-maintenance request form for the town website to streamline requests and field enforcement. He said the diagram will distill existing guidelines into a single field-friendly page and that he would bring drafts and municipal examples (Grand Junction, Aspen, Parker and Erie) to a future meeting.
A motion to approve the minutes passed unanimously. The board also moved to adjourn at the meeting's close.
The board set follow-ups with staff on inventory unit scheduling, the RFQ for the triangle flower bed and a website/form prototype the arborist will bring back to the board for review.
