Board members used the budget workshop to call attention to athletic coaching supplements and to ask staff for a review of stipend levels and assistant allocations.
Miss Shiller, a board member, said she had reviewed coaching supplements and asked the district to revisit the pay structure. “The baseball coach and the softball coach have a 10% supplement. The basketball has 15,” she said, adding that some coaches maintain fields and equipment year‑round and that stipend levels had not kept pace.
Other board members said the number of assistant coaches also differs by school and suggested the district consider formulaic staffing tied to program size. One board member proposed a tiered approach—fewer assistants for small programs and more for larger programs—as a way to align supplemental pay with workload and participation.
Staff acknowledged earlier reviews and said they would try to locate past materials on coaching pay and provide options for the budget discussions. The committee noted any stipend increases or structural changes would need to be balanced with other budget priorities.
