Pitt County commissioners confirm assessment for Oak Hill East street repairs

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 10 adopted a resolution confirming a preliminary assessment to cover street repairs in the Oak Hill East subdivision.
County planning staff told commissioners the county helped pay $75,539 for resurfacing and related repairs on Scarlet Oak Drive, Turkey Oak Court and Willow Oak Court, streets that the North Carolina Department of Transportation has accepted for maintenance. Jonas Hill of the county planning office said the work benefited 38 property owners and described the assessment schedule presented to the board.
The county mailed notices and published a legal notice after the board declared the preliminary assessment at its Jan. 13 meeting. No members of the public signed up to speak during the public hearing held Feb. 10, and the board voted to adopt the resolution confirming the assessment roll.
Jonas Hill said the county-assisted repairs were primarily resurfacing and that a public notice and individual mailings to affected property owners had been made on Jan. 21. Commissioners moved, seconded and voted with the customary voice/hand-raise procedure; the motion carried.
The board directed the tax collector to publish that the assessment roll has been confirmed, as recommended by staff. No further action was taken at the meeting on funding sources or individual billing schedules beyond the resolution confirming the assessment.
