Bonner County reinstates prior prosecutor staffing level to hire additional attorney

The Bonner County Board of County Commissioners voted to reinstate a previously eliminated prosecutor's office position so the county can advertise and hire an additional civil deputy attorney.
Prosecutor Bill Wilson told the board the proposal would recreate a position that had been eliminated earlier and allow his office to recruit another civil deputy to help with an increased workload of contract review and other legal tasks. Wilson said he had not been closely involved in earlier discussions but confirmed the office needs additional capacity.
Bonner County Clerk Mike Rosedale spoke in support of the request, citing increased workload from contract reviews: “I would be highly in favor of this … the workload has increased drastically and he's been doing the work for the entire county,” Rosedale said.
A commissioner moved to reinstate prior staffing numbers and allow the prosecutor’s office to hire an additional attorney. The motion passed on a roll-call vote; the board recorded the action and proceeded to the next agenda item.
County officials noted budget availability to cover the remainder of the fiscal year for the restored position. The prosecutor’s office will proceed with advertising the vacancy and follow normal hiring procedures.
