Martinez said the measure “honor[s] those who survived, and we share the stories to ensure that the world never forgets what happened.”
Council members framed the resolution as a civic reminder to counter antisemitism and hatred. Mayor Pro Tem Bigelow noted recent incidents of antisemitism and said the city must “send a clear message against hatred and terror.” Martinez urged that the city focus on remembering individuals, not only statistics, saying the resolution should help educate present and future generations.
The council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
The proclamation does not create new city policy or funding; it is a formal declaration of observance to encourage remembrance and education within Thornton.
