Thornton council continues public hearing on Interstate Innovation Center annexation to Feb. 11

The Thornton City Council voted unanimously to continue a public hearing on a conceptual site plan, annexation and zoning amendment for land near Interstate 25 and East 152nd Parkway to a date certain of Feb. 11.
Senior planner Kara Stoller told council the applicant requested the continuance while it works with an adjacent property owner to resolve outstanding concerns. "They believe they are close to reaching an agreement with the neighbor, but would like some additional time to try and achieve this," Stoller said. "City staff believe that the requested continuance is appropriate, and we can accommodate the proposed date."
The applications cover a conceptual site plan (CSP), annexation and zoning amendment for property described during the hearing as south of East 152nd Parkway and east of Interstate 25 at 15165 Washington Street, referred to in the meeting as the Interstate Innovation Center annexation. Stoller told council the items should be heard and voted on jointly because the annexation agreement makes multiple references to the CSP.
Stoller identified the substantive concerns raised previously by a neighboring property owner as access, screening or sound mitigation, dust and stormwater. Council opened the continued public hearing, offered speakers the opportunity to testify that evening or wait until the Feb. 11 continuation, and closed the hearing before taking the continuity motion.
Resident Terry Sisson, who said his address is 15155 Washington Street and who had attended the hearing, told council he would wait until the Feb. 11 continuation to present detailed material. "I will just wait till the eleventh," he said after staff explained speakers may testify either that night or at the continued hearing.
Council made and seconded a motion to continue the public hearing for items 12A-1, 12A-2 and 12A-3 to Feb. 11; the motion passed unanimously. The council clerk recorded the action and the hearing was continued rather than decided that evening.
The continuance reschedules the second reading of the annexation and zoning so council can consider the annexation agreement and the CSP together on Feb. 11. Staff and the applicant were listed as available for questions at the continuation.
