Oroville — The commission heard a brief notice on Jan. 23 that the city has released a draft environmental impact report (EIR) for a large warehouse proposal near Ophir Road, south of the mine and adjacent to Baggett–Palermo Road. The draft EIR examines projects up to 3,000,000 square feet of warehouse space and will be available for a 45-day public review period.
Commissioner Lehi (spoke during reports) said the draft EIR was released Jan. 8 and that there is not yet an identified applicant; the document covers any project up to the stated footprint and includes a predesign alternative for an industrial park originally proposed circa 2015–16. Staff will accept public comments during the 45-day period and will later bring the EIR forward for planning commission and city council review.
Lehi said city staff have discussed the proposal with a potential warehouse company but emphasized that the EIR is a program-level environmental review documenting impacts and alternatives. The draft and comment instructions are available for public review; the transcript does not include additional technical details on traffic, fiscal or environmental mitigation measures. Staff advised the commission that the item will return to the commission and city council for formal consideration after the public-review period concludes.
