Oroville — The Oroville City Commission unanimously approved Use Permit 2503 on Jan. 23 to allow Fairbanks Paving to develop a vehicle depot and parking garage on a vacant lot off Seventh Avenue.
Planning staff described the proposal as a metal building sited at the corner of the lot, with paved parking, landscaping and a new sidewalk. The site would store both personal vehicles and Fairbanks Paving fleet vehicles and allow limited, minor repairs on site. Staff recommended approval, saying the developed site would be an improvement over the current vacant lot and would conform to the industrial character of the immediate area despite the mixed-use zoning.
The staff report said that the property was included in a mixed-use rezoning (circa 2015) but has retained an industrial character, and staff will entertain a commission recommendation to pursue rezoning back to industrial if the commission wishes. The use requires a use permit under current zoning; staff recommended approval with findings and standard conditions.
Commissioners moved to open public hearing and, with no public comment cards submitted for that item, limited discussion to staff and commissioners before calling the question. The motion to approve Use Permit 2503 and adopt the related resolution passed unanimously; staff indicated conditions of approval and findings would be attached to the resolution.
