Papillion La Vista South’s student council representative, Abigail Bender, reported on athletics, fine arts and student-led fundraising at the board meeting, and the board recognized senior Charlie Solomon for statewide athletic honors.
Bender told the board both boys and girls basketball teams were finishing a strong season and that senior night would occur the following night. She said two girls qualified for state in wrestling and that boys bowling qualified as a team for state, with one student, Caleb Yousum, qualifying individually. She noted combined-district swim and dive prelims and finals and said diving champion Lily Sherman would defend a Metro title.
On the arts, Bender gave dates for theater events including a one-act play festival and a spring play, and said the band and choir received competitive recognition. She also reported extracurricular and service activities: more than 20 Papillion La Vista South students and staff participated in a Special Olympics Polar Plunge and collectively raised $16,000; student council’s Make-A-Wish fundraising through a “wish week” raised $3,801.47 toward a $5,000 goal. National Honor Society and DECA results and volunteer events were also highlighted.
Earlier in the meeting the board recognized senior Charlie Solomon of Papillion La Vista South, who the superintendent said was named the 2024 Nebraska Gatorade volleyball player of the year. The superintendent read career highlights and statistics and the board asked staff to deliver Solomon’s award plaque to the school.
The student report and the recognition were provided as non-action informational items; no board votes were associated with these presentations in the public transcript.
