District staff recommended Lyle Cook Martin Architects to design a Career and Technical Education (CTE) expansion at the Burt Innovation Center, saying the firm has done substantial prior work with the district and a faster selection is needed to avoid jeopardizing grant funding.
“This is work that was funded. We have the funds through integrated innovative school model dollars,” a staff member said, adding that CTE grant dollars are nearing the end of their availability and the district is pressed to begin work. Staff said architecture fees for major renovations exceeding $2,000,000 must come before the board and that this project’s fees are expected to be slightly higher than that threshold.
Staff recommended selecting Lyle Cook Martin Architects to provide design services, warning that a separate bid process could exceed the timeline and risk losing grant funding. The recommendation was presented for the board’s consideration as a first read; no formal contract award or vote took place at the meeting.
