CTE dashboard: York County highlights credentials earned, flags IT completer gap

Dr. Karen Cagle, director for curriculum and instruction, presented the York County School Division’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) dashboard on Feb. 10 and highlighted enrollment, credential and completion indicators intended to support the division’s college- and career-readiness goals.
Cagle said YCSD offers 57 middle- and high-school CTE courses and that students at the high‑school level can also attend New Horizons Regional Education Center programs. The dashboard includes credentials earned by industry-developed exams, pass rates for the required economics and personal-finance assessments and course enrollment by career cluster. Cagle said the workplace readiness pass rate reported on the dashboard was 73% and the personal-finance (WISE) pass rate 68%, both above recent state averages she cited.
Cagle flagged information-technology (IT) as an area of focus: while IT course enrollment across middle and high school totaled about 492 students last year, the number of on-time graduation cohort completers in IT was 26, indicating many students did not complete a sequential CTE pathway. She told the board the division approved a new programming class for next year intended to provide additional pathways to completion and industry credentials.
Cagle also said the division had added five new industry credential assessments for students this year to broaden credential opportunities and that the dashboard can be filtered by school and demographics (including military-connected status) to guide program decisions.
Why it matters: The CTE dashboard provides division leaders and the board a data tool to track credentials, reveal gaps between enrollment and sequence completion and plan new courses to strengthen career-readiness outcomes.
