Committee members asked how federal and state reimbursements are processed; staff explained the district submits monthly meal-count claims to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and receives reimbursement based on those counts. Staff said, as of the current program, the state is fully reimbursing participating meals under the universal free-meal program established during the COVID period.
