County staff described a 30-foot apportioned easement on 115th Street, west of Air Depot, that the county acquired years ago in anticipation of a road that was never built; property owners requested the county deed the easement back and commissioners voted to start the abandonment process.
Stacy, a county staff member, said the easement appears to be unnecessary because the road was never constructed and the parcel lies within city limits. Stacy said the county has had maintenance obligations for the easement while it held title but that "we have no need for it." She recommended deeding the easement back to the property owners unless someone on the committee had other information.
A commissioner moved to begin the process to formally abandon the apportioned easement; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said the recommendation will be forwarded to the county commissioners for a final decision.
The committee did not adopt a final deed or execute a transfer at the meeting; it only authorized the county to begin the formal abandonment process.
