Oklahoma County staff outline plan to add adult changing stations, convert lactation room

Oklahoma County staff described a plan to convert one lactation room on the first floor of the county annex into an adult changing station and to add a second station later during a fourth-floor remodel; commissioners voted to receive the report.

County staff member Stacy said the item "has been discussed at the legislature" but that the law had not yet been located in the record; staff are planning ahead. Stacy said the annex first-floor conversion would be inexpensive because much of the room’s infrastructure is already in place, while building a new adult changing station in the courthouse would require constructing from scratch and "about the same cost as a bathroom, dollars 40, dollars 50 thousand probably" for the courthouse build.

The plan, as described in the meeting, calls for: converting one existing lactation room on the annex first floor now; adding a second adult changing station on the annex fourth floor when that floor is remodeled in a couple of years; and locating a courthouse adult changing station in a former snack-bar area on the courthouse first floor if the county proceeds with a new build there. Commissioners discussed timing and staffing attendance; one commissioner moved that the body receive the report and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

No formal ordinance or funding appropriation was adopted at the meeting. Commissioners and staff said they would continue to develop plans and await additional participation from other staff (including Brad and Keith, who were noted as possibly unavailable during this meeting) before bringing construction or budget requests forward for formal approval.
