Commissioners reviewed the county climate resiliency plan and agreed to invite representatives of the Blue Ribbon Commission to present the plan at a future meeting. Staff said a formal presentation request had been made but could not be arranged on short notice; commissioners discussed scheduling the presentation for the Feb. 20 regular meeting and meeting with the commission on Feb. 19 if needed.
Mr. Cockrell reviewed a draft ordinance (referred to in the work session as Ordinance 2025-07) that would revise the existing Environmental Commission into a Resiliency Commission. Cockrell said the draft would increase membership from seven to nine, add staff positions (including the planning department's stormwater program manager or designee, the county fleet/building manager or designee, and the director of emergency management or designee), and retain three public members. He described the change as shifting more of the commission's work toward project-focused efforts while keeping public representation.
Commissioners asked for time to review the draft and for staff to discuss appointments with current members; staff recommended waiting until the regular session to take formal action. No vote was taken on the ordinance at the work session; commissioners instructed staff to place the item on the Feb. 20 agenda and to circulate the draft in advance.
