Mike (staff member) introduced the item and said the new selection "will put a light down on the ground and not shine it out toward the neighbors." Interim library director David Sullib described the change as the library's response to the earlier installation, which he said had left some south-side fixtures dark for years before a prior director had a handyman replace them.
A photometric map included in the materials showed low light levels at the property edges; a board member noted the calculation appeared to achieve the stated goal of preventing light spill toward adjacent residences. Board members asked no substantive questions and offered support for the design as presented.
The board approved the motion "to approve these lights as submitted" on a roll-call vote: Member Cottrell, Member Dahlmann, Member Caraway, Member Stratus, Member Wicks and Chair Hunter all voted aye; Member Deacon was absent.
Because the library intends to finalize the installation through the village's permitting process, staff will complete any remaining documentation and move the item through final administrative review. The board did not place additional conditions on the approvals other than relying on the submitted photometric and fixture samples.
