Council hears MVRPC update: SolarSmart technical assistance available; Super Street project remains recommended, council asks for higher priority

A council member reported on two regional transportation and energy items tied to the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC): an opportunity for a SolarSmart designation through the U.S. Department of Energy and the status of a proposed Super Street project.
The SolarSmart designation would connect MVRPC members to no-cost technical assistance on solar rooftop opportunities. The council member said the program could provide ‘‘free expert advice’’ to help local governments evaluate rooftop solar feasibility, staging and operational support; Springboro is the only local member with the designation as of January.
On the Super Street project (an ODOT corridor redesign previously presented as temporary), the council member said MVRPC had categorized the project as recommended rather than a priority for funding. She described raising the issue at the MVRPC meeting and formally requesting that members reconsider the classification and elevate the project to priority status. She said the project would require additional funding and intergovernmental cooperation and noted the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC) or county could play a role.
Council members commended staff and asked staff and elected partners to continue outreach to MVRPC, ODOT and county officials. No formal council action was recorded on either item; the report was informational.
