Dr. Reynolds (district administrator) said the district reached out to its legal team for guidance and distributed that guidance to school buildings. He told the board the district’s primary focus is “on children,” and that leaders should direct any incidents back to central office for a coordinated legal response.
As part of the response, staff will review the district’s search‑and‑seizure policy with the policy committee to determine whether adjustments are needed and to ensure school staff know how to respond in ways consistent with legal advice. Dr. Reynolds said the district will also send written correspondence to parents to explain steps the district is taking to help students feel safe.
No policy change was adopted at the work session; the item will move to the policy committee for review and any recommended revisions.
