Drew Towers presented a first reading of a minor change to the 2025'26 district calendar and the process for developing the 2026'27 calendar.
Staff asked the board to move the 2025'26 spring break from the week of March 9 to the week of March 16 to align with the Kansas Board of Regents and other regional schedules. To accommodate the change, a professional-development day originally scheduled for March 20 would move to March 13 and be converted to a teacher-release in-service: teachers who accumulate eight hours of approved out-of-contract professional development could take March 13 as an off day.
Towers said the calendar committee will finalize the 2026'27 calendar in mid-February: final revisions were scheduled for the committee on Monday the 10th, followed by a staff vote beginning Feb. 11, with results returned to the board the following week. He noted district practice to plan two years ahead on calendars and said the item will return for final approval at the next board meeting.
The board did not act on the item in this meeting; it was presented for first reading and will appear on a future consent agenda if unchanged.
