At its meeting the Haysville Board of Education confirmed its 2025 leadership and approved multiple routine items on unanimous votes, including payments and personnel approvals on the consent agenda.
Officers and board business: Board members nominated and affirmed Jennifer Bayne as president and Courtney Williams as vice president for 2025. The board also moved, seconded and approved continuing the same negotiations team from the prior year (members identified by the board as Kelly, Jeremy and Jennifer). "So we will move forward with president as Jennifer Veil and vice president as Courtney Williams. Congratulations," a board speaker said after votes were taken.
Consent agenda and personnel actions: The board approved its consent agenda and the treasurer’s report by roll-call/voice votes (each item passed 5-0). The consent agenda included approval of classified-staff weather-related compensation (the district said four weather-impacted days were budgeted for payment) and the appointment of Jeff Lowe as the district hearing appeal officer after the prior officer, David Steed, passed away. The board also approved the recommendation to fill the Ruth Clark principal position with Katie Zimmerman, currently an elementary assistant principal.
Why it matters: Those routine actions set district leadership and cleared personnel and budget items needed for operations and compliance. The classified-staff compensation item reflects the district’s practice of budgeting pay for weather-related closures; the business office said the days were budgeted in the FY24 budget and staff will be paid.
Votes at a glance: - Election of president: Jennifer Bayne (confirmed by board vote). Outcome: approved. - Election of vice president: Courtney Williams (confirmed by board vote). Outcome: approved. - Continue negotiations team (same as 2024): Motion approved (5-0). - Approve consent agenda (includes classified staff weather-related compensation; appointment of Jeff Lowe as district hearing appeal officer; appointment of Katie Zimmerman as Ruth Clark principal): approved 5-0. - Approve treasurer’s report: approved 5-0.
No contentious debate was recorded on these items; board members offered thanks to outgoing officers and to staff who prepared materials and nominations.
