Operations director proposes 10-passenger van and pickups; budget comes in under plan

Burke Jones, Derby USD 260 director of operations, presented the annual capital-outlay vehicle request during the Jan. 27 board meeting and recommended a slight change from the prior plan: purchase a 10-passenger van upfitted by an authorized vendor rather than an additional large SUV.
Jones said the federal or state rules that previously prevented purchase of 10-passenger vans were resolved, and Shawnee Mission Ford is an authorized upfitter to convert the van for 10-passenger use. His staff proposed one 10-passenger van for team and activity transport, two pickups for the maintenance department and two pickups for the grounds department.
Jones told the board the vendor pricing is on state contract and the combined purchases are $25,275 under the amount originally budgeted in the capital outlay plan. He asked if the board wanted to move the item sooner given winter weather but the board indicated it could wait until the next meeting.
