Votes at a glance: Derby Board of Education meeting — routine approvals, consent agenda, strategy report date change and vehicle purchase

The Derby Board of Education on Feb. 10 voted unanimously on a series of routine and substantive items, including adoption of the meeting agenda, approval of minutes, passage of the consent agenda, a change to the timeline for the district mental-health and wellness strategy report, appointment of a district representative to a Sedgwick County collaboration board and authorization to buy vehicles under a state contract.

The board opened the meeting by approving the agenda and four sets of minutes (Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Jan. 30 and a revised Jan. 13 board meeting), each by a recorded voice vote that the clerk summarized as “Passes 7-0.” The consent agenda — which bundled donations to several elementary schools, a memorandum of understanding with K State University, and multiple contract renewals (superintendent, assistant superintendents, directors, principals, special services employees, and personnel reports and claims) — passed 7-0.

During the strategic-plan section, the board voted to move the annual mental-health and wellness committee report deadline from June 2025 to the fall of 2026 to allow time for consistent data collection and tool selection. Board members agreed the committee should continue work but recommended reporting baseline metrics first and a full evaluative report after an additional year of data; motion passed 7-0.

The board also accepted Superintendent Heather Bohati as the district representative to a newly formed Sedgwick County District Collaboration Board, with Kathy Moody named alternate; motion passed 7-0. Finally, the board approved the purchase of vehicles from Shawnee Mission Ford under a state contract for a total of $244,725 (noted as $25,005 under budget) by a 7-0 vote.

All votes reported in the meeting were unanimous (7-0) according to the meeting record on Feb. 10.
