Salt Lake City Council adopts zoning changes, updates campaign finance code and approves leadership stipends; two grant applications referred

The Salt Lake City Council at its meeting approved a package of zoning amendments, a campaign finance housekeeping ordinance and a measure to provide stipends for council leadership, while referring two grant applications for later placement on the consent agenda.

The council unanimously adopted zoning amendments that included a rezoning at 333 West 700 South, a rezoning for properties at 238 South Concord Street and 1255 West Pierpont Avenue, and a Northpointe light-industrial zoning text amendment. Councilors also voted unanimously to confirm two city executive appointments: David Buchanan as chief human resources officer and Tammy Hunsicker as director of the Community and Neighborhoods Department.

Council members debated but ultimately passed a housekeeping change to the city's campaign finance code intended to align local code with recent state law changes. Council Member Wharton described the measure as, "just housekeeping changes." The city attorney's office and staff said the change moves specific dollar amounts to the recorder's website so they can update with the consumer price index without repeated ordinance updates.
