The administration showed a video and several student speakers from Brook Ridge Elementary introduced themselves and described favorite school lunches and teachers. Schumacher introduced the Research & Development (R & D) Forum as a spring showcase of student projects that includes the Next Great Idea pitch competition and a student showcase open house; initial pitch applications are due March 7, 2025, presenters said.
The superintendent congratulated Riley Diskin, a first‑grade teacher at Ray Marsh Elementary School, for winning a 2025 Horizon Award recognizing outstanding first‑year teachers in Kansas. The board also celebrated Shawnee Mission South students who won the Kansas 24‑Hour Film Festival and performers invited to the Kansas Thespian Festival. Marion Park Elementary was recognized as a Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll school, and a Shawnee Mission West student was named a National STEM Champion for research on microplastics.
Schumacher also noted the district continues to benefit from the $264 million bond approved by voters in 2021, which he said provided upgraded learning spaces.
