The Spanish Fort Planning Commission postponed consideration of a site plan application for a new convenience store at Stagecoach Road and Spanish Fort Boulevard after staff said the submittal lacked required information.
A KCU staff member told commissioners the department had sent two rounds of review comments and "we don't have enough information to recommend approval of this. So our recommendation at this time is to postpone it to the next meeting." The applicant listed on the agenda is Sun Engineering and Construction Management Corp on behalf of Bayshore Oil Inc.
The chairman said the item would be postponed to the next work session. No public comments were offered on the agenda item before the commission closed the public hearing.
In other business the commission approved minutes for the December 30 special session and the January 13 work session and regular meeting as presented. A representative providing the city council report said the council on Feb. 3 awarded contracts to repave the parking lot outside the community center, approved construction of new pickleball courts (contract awarded to Harris Contracting), and purchased property adjacent to Spirit Park.
Commissioners also discussed where to hold their regular work sessions. After several members said they preferred the conference room for better plan review and the ability to lay out drawings, the commission agreed to move work sessions back to the conference room with the main meeting room used for overflow when public attendance requires it. The chairman confirmed the sessions will remain open to the public.
Announcements included the next regular Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2025, with a work session at 6 p.m. and the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.; the submission deadline for that agenda was announced as Tuesday, Feb. 11 at noon.
