The Board approved a contract with Cultural Planning Group to assist the town in completing its public art plan and drafting associated policies and ordinances.
Planning staff said Cultural Planning Group is already working on a countywide cultural resource plan with the United Arts Council and Wake County and has engaged with Wendell stakeholders during that process. The consultant’s scope includes final review of Wendell’s draft plan, development of implementation policies and procedures, and proposed ordinance language. Staff said the contract fee is roughly $24,000 and that funds are available in the town’s planning FY2025 budget.
A motion to approve the contract passed by voice vote with unanimous support from the board. Commissioners who spoke praised the interjurisdictional coordination and said aligning town work with the countywide effort made practical sense. Staff said the consultant will help shape artist‑in‑residence procedures and selection guidelines in addition to implementation steps for murals, live music and other installations.
