Marshall County Historical Society reports 7,500 visitors in 2024; council backs security camera replacements

Sandy Garrison, director of the Marshall County Museum, and Mike Miley, president of the Marshall County Historical Society, gave the council a quarterly report noting record attendance and new programs in 2024 and asked for county support to replace several building security cameras.
Garrison told the council the museum hosted about 7,500 visitors in 2024, restarted historic-home tours, ran a two-night ghost walk and launched a new website funded by a grant. She also described collaborations with local groups and education programs and displayed excerpts from a forthcoming local-history book by Don Balka.
At the commissioners’ direction, Garrison presented a vendor quote from Cottage Watchmen to replace four nonoperational security cameras and recommended adding a camera at the top of the main staircase because it is a high-traffic area. Commissioner Patterson made a motion expressing support for the project and indicating the general fund as the likely payment source; the council approved the motion by voice vote.
Museum leaders said they will return with final invoices and asked the council to consider a formal appropriation at a future meeting.
