Council approves $2.05 million grant increase for Timrod Park stormwater work

The Florence City Council approved an amendment authorizing the city manager to accept additional grant funding from the South Carolina Office of Resiliency for the Timrod Park stormwater project.
Clint, a city staff member who presented the item, said the amendment increases the North McQueen portion of the grant by approximately $1,717,000 and the West Cedar portion by approximately $331,000.
Clint told council the total project cost is now just over $5 million (about $5.25–$5.3 million) and that a contractor is already under construction. The council voted to accept the amendment, which staff said will help cover current contract costs.
Council members asked a series of clarification questions: whether the amount was fixed given an existing contract and whether the city has a contractor on site. Staff confirmed the contract amount is fixed and that construction is underway.
The resolution was moved and seconded and approved without a recorded roll-call in the public transcript; staff described the vote as passed. The amendment authorizes the city manager to execute the agreement with the Office of Resiliency and to accept the additional funds for the North McQueen and West Cedar work within the Timrod Park area.
City staff said they will continue to provide updates to council as construction progresses and as grant paperwork is finalized.
