The Florence City Council did not advance Resolution 2025-07, a resolution to approve a downtown development grant, when no motion or second was recorded and the item failed for lack of a motion. Council members noted the failed action during the meeting’s action items.
Separately, the council approved two appointments the mayor presented. The mayor nominated Demetrius Gooden (qualified as a layperson) and Christopher Weatherford (qualified to serve as an electrical contractor) to unspecified boards; the mayor moved, a council member seconded, and the appointments were approved by voice vote.
Council staff reported several other boards-and-commissions items: a civic center reappointment for Anne Scott was placed under a councilmember’s purview and deferred; one vacancy on the parks and beautification commission was deferred; a design review board appointment was deferred pending qualification checks; and two Veterans Park nominations were deferred. Specific votes on the deferred items were not taken.
Council also confirmed that items discussed in executive session produced no formal votes during that session, and that matters from executive session were brought to the public agenda for action where required.
