Council proclaims Feb. 13 as Trauma Intervention Programs Day, honors volunteers

Gabrielle Totten, executive director of TIP of Northern Nevada, told the council TIP is a volunteer nonprofit that provides emotional first aid to survivors of tragedy and support to first responders 24 hours a day. Totten said TIP operates on less than $100,000 a year, is funded by grants and private donations, and that volunteers donated more than 28,000 hours in the past year.
Greg Nalman, the TIP board chairman, thanked the city and first‑responder agencies — including Sparks Police and Sparks Fire — for their referrals and ongoing partnership. City staff and elected leaders thanked TIP for its local role and noted TIP’s upcoming “Heroes with Heart” awards dinner and online raffle.
Why it matters: TIP provides immediate emotional support at traumatic scenes free of charge and acts as an adjunct resource for police, fire and EMS, helping survivors and first responders in the hours after critical incidents.
