Retirees, PTSA donate to local schools; governor proclaims January school board recognition month

Robert Fletcher of the Washington State School Retirees Association presented a $1,000 donation to Timber Ridge Elementary during the Jan. 23 Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors meeting. Fletcher described the association's mission to protect and improve pensions and benefits for current and retired school employees and said the unit chose Timber Ridge as this year’s recipient.
The board also recognized an $11,000 gift from the Cascade View Elementary PTSA to support a program described at the meeting as “Smart with Art.” Board members voiced appreciation for PTA and PTSA support and noted the donations were entered on the consent agenda and approved by the board.
Board members read a proclamation from Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson designating January as School Board Recognition Month. The proclamation, read aloud at the meeting, praised locally elected school boards and educational service district boards for their role in governance and oversight of public education for more than 1.1 million students in the state.
The donations were recorded on the consent agenda and accepted by motion during the regular meeting; the proclamation was presented as part of the recognition segment. No further action was required. The board moved to the rest of the agenda after the recognitions.
