District outlines secondary summer school schedule, fees and driver’s-ed logistics

Huntsville City Schools presented plans for secondary (middle and high) summer school, including virtual course delivery, timing and fees.
Staff said secondary summer school will run June 2–27, with teachers housed at Huntsville High; most courses will be delivered virtually and teachers available Monday–Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon for scheduled student assistance. The first course costs $300 regardless of full or half credit; a second course costs $150. Parents or guardians must provide transportation; the district said there will be no bus transportation to the site for secondary summer courses.
Online registration for credit-enhancement courses will open April 7 and close May 9. The district said registration for credit recovery courses will occur later, with specific windows at Huntsville High’s Freshman Academy in late May and a late registration in June for students who confirm credit-recovery needs after the regular school year ends.
Driver’s education will be in-person at Huntsville High and requires full-day attendance to meet state hour requirements. Staff said drivers-ed sessions will meet Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch; students must bring their own lunch. Teachers will be on-site for students who need extra help despite the primarily virtual format of other courses.
Board members asked no substantive follow-up after the presentation.
