Maryland House sets bill‑introduction deadline, assigns bond initiative to appropriations and outlines committee hearing schedule

The Maryland House of Delegates read introductory bills on the consent calendar, reassigned several measures, referred a bond initiative to the Appropriations Committee and announced committee hearing schedules during its floor session in Annapolis.
Clerk action on the consent calendar included reading House bills numbered in ranges that were then referred to appropriate committees. The clerk read introductory House bills 762 through 799 and, later, 800 through 843; hearing no objections, the bills were given first reading and referred to the committees named by the clerk.
The clerk also read Introductory House Bond Initiative No. 19 and referred it to the Appropriations Committee. The clerk recorded letters of reassignment that placed House Bill 526 to Ways and Means and Judiciary, House Bill 620 to Ways and Means and Judiciary, and House Bill 676 to Judiciary.
Committee chairs and committee clerks announced schedules for hearings and briefings: the Judiciary Committee will meet at 1:00 p.m. for bill hearings; the Environment and Transportation Committee will hold a "state of the bay" briefing at 11:00 a.m. followed by bill hearings at 1:30 p.m.; Ways and Means, Economic Matters, Health and Government Operations, and several appropriations subcommittees announced 1:00 p.m. meeting times for bill hearings or briefings. Several county delegations and caucuses also announced meetings and receptions.
Majority Leader announced a submission deadline for bills: "Your bills must be in to the clerk's office by 5PM, Thursday, February sixth," he said. He also warned members that the upcoming Friday session would be pro forma.
At the session's close, the Majority Leader moved that the House stand adjourned until Thursday, Jan. 30, at 10:00 a.m.; the motion carried and the House recessed to that date.
