Oshkosh parks, museum and tribes to host Native American culture panel Feb. 23

Parks staff and the Oshkosh Public Museum announced a grant-funded public program about Native American culture and local archaeology, to begin Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Oshkosh Convention Center.
Anne Schafer, the parks department’s marketing and fund-development coordinator, said the department received a Wisconsin Arts Board grant and partnered with the Oshkosh Public Museum to expand a program that had been presented at the senior center. The inaugural event will include a panel discussion with Jennifer Haas from the UWM archaeology department, David Greenan from the Menominee Tribe and Bill Quackamasch from Ho-Chunk; the public will be able to ask questions.
Schafer said the event is free, registration is required (a QR code links to the registration page), and about 50 people had registered at the time of the meeting with a staff goal of 300. She said the program will announce additional workshops with Native American artists in March and April and that the museum partnership adds subject-matter expertise.
Board members encouraged Schafer to share the program with the Museum Arts and Culture Board and accepted flyers that staff provided for distribution.
