The House of Representatives, operating in a pro forma session on Jan. 23, 2025, read dozens of introductory bills for the first time and referred them to the appropriate committees by unanimous consent, and later agreed to adjourn until Monday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m.
Clerk read consent calendar items covering introductory House bills and announced that, "hearing no objection, the bills are read the first time" and were referred to the appropriate committees. The first consent calendar covered House Bill 649 through House Bill 687; a subsequent consent calendar covered House Bill 688 through House Bill 710. The clerk also read introductory house bond initiatives numbered 11, 12 and 13 and said they were referred to the Appropriations Committee.
The clerk reported a letter of reassignment saying, "House 627 reassigned to Ways and Means." Later, Majority Leader moved that "the House stands adjourned until Monday, January 27 at 8 p.m.," and the motion was adopted without recorded objection.
The session was procedural: no floor debate on the merits of the bills was recorded in the transcript, and actions taken were limited to first readings, committee referrals, a reassignment, and an adjournment. The clerk also noted that committee bill hearings are listed on the Maryland General Assembly website. The clerk announced posting of mail for 01/23/2025 earlier in the session.
The House is scheduled to reconvene on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at 8 p.m., according to the adjournment motion.
