Provo opens new downtown fire station and sent firefighters to assist California fires, mayor says

Kaufusi praised Fire Chief Jeremy Hedman and the department, calling public safety a priority and noting that ladder trucks previously could not be accommodated downtown. She said the new station is a forward-looking addition to the city's public safety infrastructure.
Kaufusi also noted Provo sent six firefighters and a brush truck to assist with California wildfires for 16 days. She said crews return with lessons that improve local safety practices and that the city will distribute more fire-safety information to residents.
Officials invited residents to future ribbon-cutting events and thanked department staff for their service.
