Provo to move Kiwanis Park recycling bins after persistent contamination and vandalism

A resident reported overflowing and contaminated recycling dumpsters at Kiwanis Park. Public Works staff said contractors and others had filled the bins with nonrecyclables and that cameras installed to deter misuse were vandalized.
Public Works staff said the city has reduced contamination in curbside recycling from about 50% to below 25% after outreach, but the park bins remain vulnerable to after-hours dumping. The city is negotiating a gated, day-access location on city property and plans to remove the park bins this summer; staff said they will retain other recycling locations and continue enforcement and outreach.
Officials encouraged residents to consult the sanitation page on the new website for details on acceptable materials and said the city will provide alternative drop-off sites though staff did not list those sites off the top of their remarks.
