Bradley County commissioners place several items on upcoming voting-session agendas, including right-of-way abandonment and permit buffer proposal

Bradley County commissioners on a February meeting directed staff to place multiple items on upcoming voting-session agendas, including a request from the mayor for a three-year agreement, a proposed 185-foot buffer on beer sales near schools and churches, a continuous four-year reappraisal resolution, a petition to abandon a right of way on Eleanor Drive SW and a set of county properties recommended for sale.

The mayor said, "I only have 1 thing, and it's in front of you as a resolution, to sign an agreement with Alexis Nexus for a 3 year period. If someone would put that on the agenda for next week, I would appreciate it." Commissioner Slater indicated he would place the item on the agenda.

Commissioner Blake asked that a resolution authorizing a continuous four-year reappraisal program be placed on the next voting session agenda. "This is a resolution authorizing the continuous 4 year reappraisal program. This is something we've done over the years, so I need need to put this on the voting session, for our next voting session for county commissioner approval for that," Blake said.

Commissioner Thompson asked that a resolution amending Bradley County permit-application procedures be placed on the next voting meeting. Thompson read the proposal: a resolution "to forbid the sales, storage, and manufacturing of beer and light beverages for the consumption of premises within 185 feet of schools, churches, and other public gathering areas." He asked that the resolution be placed on the next voting meeting agenda.

The planning office reported it had received petitions to abandon a right of way along Eleanor Drive SW. Commissioner Rogers moved to place a motion on the Feb. 18 voting-session agenda "to approve the abandonment of the right of way near Lot 13 Eleanor Drive identified by tax map 065JGroupEParcel017Dot00." County planner Bentley Thomas was present for questions.

The tax committee recommended offering a number of county properties for sale. Commissioner Leidy said, "the tax committee met recently and vote to recommend the offering of the sale of a number of properties. Each have hard copy of those roads for sale... I placed this on recommendation on February 2025 voting session agenda." Details for the specific parcels were referenced in committee materials and described in the packet; Leidy said hard copies are available.

Commissioner Rogers also asked that agenda item B be pulled from today's meeting and moved to the Feb. 24 work session. "If you wouldn't mind, if you would please, we need to pull agenda item b for today. And if you would, please place it on the next, work session, which I believe is the 20 fourth of this month, February 24," Rogers said.

There were no members of the public who requested to speak during the communications-from-the-audience portion. Announcements included the next voting session at 12:00 p.m. in February (date in the transcript not specified) and several committee and community meeting notices.

What the commission did not do at this meeting: none of the items described above were approved or adopted at the session; commissioners instructed staff or placed items on future voting-session agendas for formal consideration.
