Summary
The mayor announced a $2,000,000 state grant (plus $250,000) for an 11-foot multipurpose path on US 250 and described several downtown, industrial and housing projects including a planned 90-room Home2 Suites, a Vision Development apartment project, and an 84,000 sq ft Amazon distribution center.
The mayor said the city received a $2,000,000 state grant plus an additional $250,000 through the state budget to install a multipurpose paved pathway along US 250 between US 42 and Interstate 71. He said the south-side path will be 11 feet wide and a six-foot paved path will be installed on the north side.
On downtown and the PumpHouse District, the mayor reported completion of renovation at 16 East Main Street and said the old PumpHouse site is planned for a Hilton Home2 Suites hotel of about 90 rooms. He said Vision Development is proposing market-rate apartments in the PumpHouse area and that the company anticipates investing nearly $50,000,000 to build approximately 150–200 units.
In the industrial park the mayor reported that Amazon is building an 84,000 square-foot last-point distribution center at US 250 and Wells Road that is expected to employ about 100 people and that site work, including a retention pond, is underway. He also said site prep is under way for a 200,000-square-foot facility behind Novatex and SJ Rhombus and that other redevelopment work is planned at National Latex and the Caraustar site, supported by a roughly $1,800,000 state grant for cleanup projects.
The mayor described several housing projects around the city, including upscale condominiums on Smith and Behney roads led by Hunsinger Builders, a potential subdivision in Milton Township, and a large southern development along US 42 between King Road and Mifflin Avenue expected to add several hundred market-rate townhouses and single-family homes. He said annexation and utility upgrades will be necessary for some projects.
