Library outlines February programs, computer classes and VITA tax-assistance appointments

Brent Lowe of the Oakdale Public Library briefed the council on February events and ongoing programs. Highlights included Lego play days for children, a Valentine’s Day craft, teen/adult crafts, a Master Gardener presentation on spring vegetables, weekly preschool story time and a wiggle-worms program for ages 0–3.
Lowe said the library is running a series of beginner computer classes (scheduled for the 5th, 12th and 19th) and an Excel class on the 18th; he said classes typically accommodate about four people but can be adjusted if demand is higher. He also described the VITA tax-preparation program for seniors and low-income residents, held on Thursdays by an outside organization and available by appointment; Lowe said the VITA program has run for roughly 15 years in some form.
Lowe thanked residents for passage of an 8-cent sales tax that helps support the library and acknowledged donations and support from the Friends of the Library, Lions Club and Rotary Club. He invited volunteers to join the Friends group and noted some calendar items will be posted online; he said staff will accept paper applications for programs if needed.
