Mayor Barrios and the Oakdale City Council recognized the Oakdale Stampede junior-varsity football team for winning the 2024 Syncal Super Bowl and presented certificates to players and cheerleaders.
“Student athletes is all I want. First word is student. I need that first before you become an athlete,” said Coach Mike Ginger as he described the team’s season and discipline. Ginger, who said he has coached Stampede Football for 15 seasons, told the council the team started 2–3 but rebounded after personnel and coaching adjustments and finished the season unbeaten following those changes.
The ceremony included the reading of player and cheerleader names and concluded with certificates, handshakes and a group photo with the team trophy. Mayor Barrios thanked the coaches, parents and volunteers for supporting youth sports in Oakdale and accepted a trophy from the team to display in his office; he called the program “really, really amazing.”
The recognition was ceremonial; no council vote was recorded for this item.
