Gregor Sports Park nears opening; power energized, ribbon-cutting planned for March

City staff told the Oakdale City Council that the Gregor Sports Park construction is nearing completion after the power pedestal was energized today, allowing restrooms, tennis and pickleball courts to be powered for final checks and punch-list work.
Project manager Karina said crews need a few more weeks to run power through systems, test lights and plumbing, complete a punch walk, and verify site drainage and parking. Most finishing work should be done before public opening; a few repairs to courts require contractors who typically return in April and cannot work in inclement weather, Karina said.
Staff said the shade structure and final small details—weed control, parking and cosmetic items—remain to finish. The city plans a ribbon cutting in the first week of March and intends to have the park open to residents once final checks are complete. The city is implementing a key-access system for gated areas and a camera system; staff said cameras will be located so Oakdale Police Department can access them for public-safety purposes.
Council members raised questions about sight lines and noise. Staff said a landscaped berm near the courts was intentionally designed both to reduce noise (particularly from pickleball, which can be played throughout the day) and to provide wind protection; they added the berm also gives sight lines from nearby streets and yards. Staff described a plan to issue keys to permit holders with rules for users.
No council action was required; staff will continue completion work and confirm an exact opening date once final inspections and contractor repairs are finished.
