Stewart Park construction progressing; $3.1 million federal grant in pre-award review

Community Services Director Doug Storey updated the committee on construction at Stewart Park, reporting demolition and major grading are complete and on-site infrastructure work is under way.
Storey said footings for light poles are in place, sidewalks and walking paths are being formed, the playground has been ordered, and the city is finalizing designs and submittals for the splash pad area. He said the contractor has managed recent rains well and the project remains on schedule for substantial completion near the end of a roughly 345‑day contract that began in July; staff said they expect work to be wrapped up around June.
Storey also reported the city received a federal Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership grant for $3,100,000 that will help fund Stewart Park phase 2. The city is about 50 percent through the federal pre‑award process and is completing Section 106 historic preservation reviews, tribal consultation, and environmental reviews under NEPA and CEQA. Storey said staff are working with state and federal partners in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., and hope to finalize the contract and begin drawing grant funds in the summer.
The committee voted to receive and file the Stewart Park update.
