Albany County Legislature approves $17,447 federal grant for assault services program

The Albany County Legislature on Oct. 12 approved acceptance of $17,447 in federal grant funding from the New York State Division of Justice Services for an assault services program.
Amanda Rigel, director of the Crime Victims and ****** Violence Center, asked the Legislature to accept the award, saying the funds will support local crisis-center operations. “We—re planning to use that money for a variety of things, 1 of which being to to continue to pay for our translation and phone services as we—ve we—ve seen an increase in the need for that over the past year or so,” Rigel said.
After Rigel described the grant, a legislator asked whether there were questions; seeing none, the presiding member called for a motion. A motion to accept the grant was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Separately, the Legislature moved into an executive session to consider a proposed settlement of a lawsuit. Legislator Grady made the motion to go into executive session; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The presiding member said only legislative staff, legislators and Kevin Cannizzaro of the law department were permitted to remain for that session.
Earlier in the meeting the presiding member announced that several agenda items had been withdrawn or tabled at the request of sponsors: Item 5 was withdrawn and items 6 through 19 were tabled.
The grant acceptance took effect as a legislative action recorded during the session; no further implementation details or spending breakdowns were provided at the meeting.
